Horse wound protection / leg warmers / leg protection for the hind leg – reversible product – left and right fitting | VetMedCare®
Horse legs look relatively delicate in relation to the horse’s body and are prone to injury. Injuries to the legs of horses are often caused by the fact that they graze or catch themselves with their hooves while riding. It also happens that they kick themselves when jumping over obstacles. Even high branches (or the beloved barbed wire) can quickly lead to injuries in outdoor terrain.
Thanks to high quality leg protection products, horse runs can be very protective nowadays. To prevent injuries, there are typical representatives with various solutions of bandages, different gaiters or prank caps.
Horse wounds need a different kind of protection. Once injuries (wounds) have occurred or wounds after operations can heal particularly well with VetMedCare® Horse Wound Protection.
Topic integrated, positioned and exchangeable wound dressings
You can easily design integrated wound dressings yourself. By means of the optionally available press studs (which, thanks to our own development, do not have to be sewn on), the wound dressings can be easily attached to the inside of the leg protection and thus also exchanged. The press studs are very flat and do not wear out annoyingly.

Background information on VetMedCare ® special veterinary solutions for horses – Horse accessories
With the VetMedCare ® brand, we develop special veterinary medical solutions that are mainly – but not only – used after operations. An important goal was to spare animals the annoying neck brace – and to guarantee safe wound protection. The different bodysuits, tubes and safety pants have sophisticated, field-tested cuts. In addition, the extremely stretchy fabric offers a particularly high level of wearing comfort.
The development and creation of the OP bodysuits were carried out in close cooperation with veterinarians up to the finished product. With these veterinary dog bodysuits an innovative protection and clothing series for animal needs were created.
Overall, the product did its job. Despite my horse moving around while laying on it, it kept the bandage on her hip in place and clean from dirt. Prior to this product, the bandage never stayed on. However, the sizing could be improved. Based on the size guide, my stocky Haflinger was a size small, but it could have been wider at the hip as it didn’t reach her rib cage or cover her withers. The leg part was long enough though, and I ended up folding it over itself. The protector was also tight in general, which was good for wound compression, but made putting it on difficult and not so comfortable for her around the neck. It snagged on the bottom of her hoof the third time I put it on her and created a few tiny holes. Thankfully they haven’t ripped yet but I expected better from the material. I think the three sizing options are a good start, but adding another option for shorter stocky horses would make it better.
