Eye spacer made from Woodcast plate for making or forming the eye spacer for the horse head mask
Manual adjustment for horse eye spacer as (.pdf)Woodcast is a non-toxic, thermoformable (= malleable by heating) and postformable material, which consists of pure wood and biodegradable plastic.
In order to ensure that the eye spacer sits optimally for every horse patient, it is not supplied in a prefabricated form, but as a 2 mm thick woodcast panel measuring 14.6 x 34 cm.
It can be processed without water or gloves. The heated Woodcast material takes on any anatomical shape in no time at all and retains it very quickly. Used Woodcast material can be heated or disposed of as organic waste.
The eye spacer is placed under the uncut eye area of the horse head ear protector.
To ensure that the spacer does not slip when you put it on, we recommend that you first put on the horse’s head-ear protection (head mask) and only then insert the pre-formed eye spacer from above.
Simple formation of the horse eye spacer – building instruction
Heat the Woodcast plate with a hot air dryer, in the microwave or in the oven, you will see how the material becomes soft and malleable after a few minutes (from 65°C).
Now adjust the warm plate lengthwise to the horse’s head, so that a nice hollow space is formed over the affected eye – Attention, please do not lay directly on the horse’s skin, a fitting over the head-ear protection without eye cutout is recommended.
As an alternative, the plate can also be placed over the fist or a small bowl to create the desired cavity.
1. Now cut off a strip of the excess material with scissors.
and
2. Reinstall lengthwise in the centre of the moulded eye spacer
Stretch the eye spacer nicely, shape the edges and remove the remaining excess material with scissors to create an oval shape:
The eye spacer is now completely formed – the edging tape still has to be attached and then it is placed under the horse head ear protection without eye cutout – the elastic material holds the eye spacer.
Option: Attachment of push buttons on the eye spacer
Order black snap fasteners HEREIf required, one or more press studs can be pressed into the edge of the still warm eye spacer, the counterpart is placed over the horse mask and connected through the fabric – for an even more stable fit of the eye spacer.
